Not surprising but happiness is an emotion, that often strange feeling you get when you....

  • Really enjoy what you do
  • Finish a task and it is really good, something you feel proud of
  • work alongside supportive, fantastically amazing colleagues
  • Have the knowledge that what you do is important
  • Are truly appreciated for the efforts you put in at work
  • Are given responsibility
  • Actually have fun at work
  • Are allowed and empowered to learn and develop
  • Know you have the ability and platform to make a difference
  • Feel energised, motivated and inspired

Those of us who are truly happy in their work have a much higher quality of life, this knowledge is truly empowering

Unfortunately the opposite is true of people who do not have a happy work life, make no mistake, in the worst cases, bad jobs and bad working conditions can sadly kill people.

Which is why it is so crucial to every person who works, to find a purpose, to resolve any issues of unhappiness as soon as practically possible.

Contagious

Happiness is contagious, go spread a little happiness wherever you can. By the same token unhappiness is equally, and some might say "more so" contagious.

The number one tip regarding Happiness

Happiness cannot be forced....you cannot force people to be happy, if fellow workers are having a bad day, and the merest thought of having a giggle makes them angry, let them have a bad day...let them be...they will come round tommorow.

Some bad days are ok, perhaps even inevitable, the key factor here is happiness is 10% the Job....and 90% about you.

The Perfect Job

Sadly the perfect job just does not exist, even the most glamorous of jobs will have some drawbacks....I'm sure you have heard sportsmen and women bemoan early morning training sessions...boring circuit training etc..Or the movie star who had to do the same scene over and over again....No matter what job you do, there will be elements that are boring, repetitive and mundane...

As Stephen Covey once said.....

Happiness....like unhappiness.....is a proactive Choice

It is all about what you do! Not so much about what you have!

6 Actions that make us Happy

  1. Positivity
  2. Learning
  3. Openness
  4. Participation
  5. Find Meaning
  6. Love

The most important thing about happiness at work is to have fun.....A strange thought I know, who would have thought that work could be fun....For many years I thought work had to be a hard slog, working loads of hours and then work some more...

I the stumbled upon a book by Tim Gallwey...entitled 2The Inner Game Of Work". In this extraordinary book I had my first "A-HA" moment. A moment that changed the direction of my working life and led me to making several changes to my working life. In this book Tim suggests and backs up his suggestions with scientific and pshycological evidence to prove that yes indeed...work can be both rewarding and enjoyable.
