Orchestrating happiness is possible for all of us

Every coach, mentor, and success guru in the world today will as part of their process advise us to set targets and objectives. Why are targets and objectives so important? The answer to that comes from our innate human need to have a purpose in our life. Plus the need to be stretched physically and mentally

Which is no surprise when you assess the impact that Brain Training Games on hand held games consoles have had on the adult population in recent times.

Goal setting forms the foundations for that purpose. In simple no-nonsense terms, achieving your targets are the starting point for changing your life. Strategically set objectives allow you to focus on your dreams, hopes and ambitions, so you can create the life you want.

Strategic goals are written down and positioned in such a way that you find it difficult not to become motivated by them. Achieving your goals then becomes part of your everyday life. In a nutshell, strategic goals give you a reason to get up out of bed each day.

In your quest for an effective work and life balance, strategic goals are basic requirements in your strategy for success.

The Foundations of your Plan

Strategic goals are those goals which form the basis of your plan. Whilst at the same time meeting your need to be stretched both physically and mentally.

Here is a definition (we all love a definition) from the American Heritage Dictionary: GOALS “The purpose towards which an endeavor is directed; an objective.”

Hopefully, you have already arrived at the conclusion that your purpose is to have and maintain a work life balance.

Is that true of you? Is your purpose a work life balance that is truly balanced?

The Dalai Lama once said:

“I believe that the very purpose of our life is to seek happiness”

Would rephrasing your goal be beneficial? Would it make you feel really good about yourself if you agreed with the Dalai Lama? Agreeing with the Dalai Lama is very simple; you can concur with him by doing one simple task.

Insert “Happy” wherever you need to define your purpose…would a more relevant purpose be that of setting yourself a goal to have a “Happy Work Life Balance”?

Yes, you agree! Excellent, you are in good company. You and the Dalai Lama. Imagine how it would feel to know that your purpose in life is no different than that of the Dalai Lama…Amazing.

Building the Foundations of Your Plan

Setting strategic goals will be much easier now that you have a purpose, and you feel ready to formulate your plan, with objectives and targets set. Using the SMART method of setting goals is a good place to start when setting strategic goals.

During this process, bear in mind your pursuit of happiness. Evaluate your strategic goals in terms of how or why they will assist you in your quest for happiness.

Example

If going to the gym to get fit is your goal, include why achieving this goal will make you feel happy.

Going to the gym will make me fitter. This will allow me to go jogging with my two daughters, and spending time with my daughters always makes me happy.

Strategic goals are those goals which contribute to your plan of achieving your ultimate goal— a Happy Work Life Balance.

Not forgetting of course, your continued agreement with the Dalai Lama.
