Never Confuse having a career with having a life

Here are some facts that may make you feel a little better about your current work associated problems.

  • 70% of the workforce is thinking about, or actively looking for, a new job.
  • Two thirds of our dissatisfaction is caused by our boss.
  • One third of our dissatisfaction is caused by our environment.
  • Less than 5% of our dissatisfaction is caused by the job itself.

These facts show that you are not alone if you’re experiencing work associated problems. In fact, if you are working in an organisation of 100 people – 70 of your co-workers may be looking for another job!

We here at Work Life Balance Tips strongly believe in a no-nonsense approach to work life balance issues. We know that you value the work that you do, but at the same time we also believe that work needs to have an element of fun if you are going to achieve the work life balance you desire.

With that in mind, our goal is to provide enough information for you to eradicate any work associated problems and bring fun, enjoyment and happiness back to the workplace.

Have You Been Mis-Employed?

If you’re experiencing extreme work associated problems, you may be the victim of mis-employment. Mis-employment happens at the interview stage.

Many interviewers don’t ask the right questions. They’re too focused on skills, achievements, and aspirations.

For example
Q – Do you have the right skills to succeed? – A – Yes

Q – Do you fit with the company? – A- Erm, well that’s not always asked.

You are expected to adapt to the new company, new boss and new culture. Are you ready for the new culture or new boss? Equally, is your new employer ready for you?

After all, you will have to work in that environment. You need to know what you’re getting into in order to choose whether or not to accept the position.

This is, of course, very easy to say. It’s not so easy to actually do, especially if you really want the job. You may not be in a financial position to say no. Or, you may have carried out research and identified the job as a great opportunity for you. Can you pass up on such an opportunity?

Perhaps not. But you can avoid many work associated problems by waiting for the right job, rather than jumping on the right now job.

What Do You Really Want to Know?

Ask the right kind of questions, and you will get the right kind of answer. Questions are very important in establishing an understanding of whether you can fit into an organisation.

And as a friend once said: cheap biscuits – cheap company. The same is true of questions. Ask quality questions designed to get you the information you need so you don’t end up with work associated problems.
