Welcome to Work Life Balance Tips, my name is Andrew Hamilton, this web site has many objectives, primarily it is to show that work life balance is a real issue, an issue that affects many of us, but there is one intention, one primary objective that I hope more than anything has an impact on the visitors to this site, that is for you the visitor to become more aware of your surroundings, more aware of your choices and more aware that you can make choices, which in turn will hopefully provide you with the necessary motivation to take Positive Action of both the physical and mental kind
A little about myself and my journey towards work life balance. I am married and I have a wonderful daughter, for many years I worked without a true purpose, without true meaning.
I had worked all of those years without even acknowledging the fact that work needed meaning and purpose, I worked to pay the bills, it was as simple as that. Sadly this was to be instrumental in my crisis, my moment, my episode.
It was one of those moments in life that you either crumble or you get lucky and realsie that there is something else, something more than just putting in the hours, and I put in a lot of hours!
During this period of my life it became apparent that I had some tough decisions to make, some lifestyle choices would have to be revisited, I began by trying to understand the psychology of who I was.
Whilst searching the Internet, reading countless articles by psychologists of all kinds, particularly Freud and Jung, I came across an article about Tim Gallwey, the article referred to his belief that work could be a happy and enjoyable experience.!(I was not convinced!!)
There was a link to his book The Inner Game of Work, I was sufficiently impressed and intrigued to actually buy his book there and then,(you may see many references to his work here, I make no apology for that, in many ways this book changed my life)
To cut a long story short I became a firm believer in his work, and I decided that a career change was in order, several courses and books later I found myself in the fortunate position of having my work life balanced restored. Firmly cemented in the belief that everyone could, given the correct tools achieve a happy and enjoyable work and life.
Not without much soul searching, countless periods of self doubt and lack of confidence and many many mistakes, and one particularly expensive error of judgment.
It was at this point that I decided to start my own business and try to make the life I wanted a reality, I was lucky enough to win a contract with the Local National Health Service (NHS)
This validated a lot of what I was trying to achieve, I will be for ever grateful to those who had belief in what I Had to offer.
Whatever reason you have for improving your work life balance, include meaning and purpose into anything you do and the rewards will be amazing.
